Richard Pollock Obituary

Richard J. Pollock, 67, of Sheffield, PA died unexpectedly on November 26, 2019, in the emergency room of Warren General Hospital. Richard was born on January 29, 1952, to Peter and Elizabeth Pollock. Richard was educated in Sheffield schools and graduated with the class of 1969. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1971 to 1975, being honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant E5. During his time in the Corps, he held duty stations in North Carolina, New Jersey, Okinawa, and California.

He was a member of St. Michaels Byzantine Catholic Church where he was an altar server in his youth. He was a member of the Sheffield Rod and Gun Club, the NRA, and the American Legion Post 135. In his younger, healthier years he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, metal detecting and competitive shooting. He was an excellent carpenter and wood craftsman and was a perfectionist in all of his projects. He was a history buff and enjoyed studying the Civil War and World War II. He possessed an unusual sense of humor and had a quick wit; always good for a laugh.

Following his military service he was employed for a brief time with the Sheffield Township maintenance crew and United Refining Company, then for numerous years at Betts Industries and Rexnord as a machinist. Lastly and until his retirement he worked for Sheffield Land and Timber as a well tender–a job that was well suited to his love for the outdoors.

Leaving behind to cherish Richard’s memory are his sisters, Beverly Pollock and Nadine Pollock (Dale Dunshie) of Sheffield. He is also survived by numerous cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father Peter in 1993, and mother Elizabeth in 2008, his maternal grandparents John and Anna Laychak. His paternal grandparents, Michael and Anna Pollock passed before he was born. He was further preceded in death by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Richard’s family will welcome family and friends on Friday November 29 from 5:00 pm to 8:30 pm at the Borden Funeral Home of Sheffield. A parastas service will be held at 6:00 pm at the funeral home.
