Raymond Barr Obituary

Raymond (Ray) Leroy Barr passed away unexpectedly late Saturday evening, October 23, 2021 at UPMC Kane Hospital.  He was born February 5, 1949 in Heilwood, Pennsylvania, the son of Nelson N Barr and Lilly (Rogers) Barr.  Ray was a lifetime Sheffield area resident.  Ray was a 1967 graduate of Sheffield High School and continued his education at Robert Morris College.  He served his country in the United States Army and held the rank of Sargeant.  He married the love of his life Gail Eileen Sondericker on October 3, 1970.  Ray was a member of the Sheffield United Methodist church.  He enjoyed taking his wife to the fish fries at the Eagles’ Club.

He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman.  He coached local sports, being football and baseball for well over 25 years.  Every player that he coached had a special place in his heart.  Ray was a wonderful husband and father and will be greatly missed by everyone who ever had the privilege of knowing or loving him.  Ray was a member of the Sheffield VFW.  Above all else, Ray was so proud of his two sons, Mike and Rusty.  He loved them unconditionally.  Ray’s grandchildren and great grandchild were the sparkle in his eye.

Left behind to cherish Ray’s memory are his wife Gail, at home, and his two sons Michael Barr and his wife April of Cherry Grove, Rusty Barr and his wife Debra of Tiona, two sisters, Edna Lindsay of Sheffield and Mona Champion also of Sheffield, his grandchildren Alexandra Walden (Jarrett), Colby Barr, Tymber Barr, Samuel Barr and Wyatt Barr, as well as one great grandchild, Jax Walden.  He was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.

Ray’s family will welcome family and friends on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Borden Funeral Home of Sheffield.  Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Glenn Collins officiating.  Burial will take place at the Sheffield Cemetery with a luncheon immediately to follow at Cherry Grove Volunteer Fire Department.  Memorial donations may be made in Ray’s memory to the Cherry Grove Volunteer Fire Department, 6045 Cherry Grove Road, Clarendon, PA 16313.
