Marie Alice Bean, 94, a longtime Sheffield resident, passed away peacefully on Monday afternoon, October 14, 2024, at Magnolias of Santee, Santee SC.
Marie was born at home in Sugar Grove Township, PA on April 16, 1930, to Eugene and Emily (Lott) Eckert. She was a 1948 graduate of Sugar Grove High School and was selected as valedictorian of her class. Marie continued her education by graduating from Warren Business College in 1950. She gained employment at Worsted Mill in Falconer, New York to pay for her tuition at Warren Business College. She married the love of her life Ronald Clinton Bean in 1950 at a church in Wellbank, PA The couple moved to Sheffield in 1953. She attended the Free Methodist Church in Sheffield until its closing, then attended the Cherry Grove Community Church.
Marie was very community minded, and greatly supported the Sheffield community. She gave her time volunteering for many Sheffield organizations including the Boy Scouts & Girl Scouts. She worked with her dear friend, Doris Bastow, for many years at the thrift store. She was a founding member of the Sheffield Food Pantry and served as a director. She also was a member of the Sheffield Lions Club and an active member of the Sheffield Senior Center.
Marie’s love for people and her generosity for those in need will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her, especially the Sheffield community.
Left behind to cherish Marie’s memory are her son, Nester, her daughter, Sandra, and her daughter in law, Pamela. She is further survived by her grandchildren, Rachel, Tayler, Morgan, and Dani.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald, a daughter, Terri and a son, Daniel.
There will be no calling hours or services observed for Marie.
