Larry Silves

Larry D. Silves, 78, a lifelong resident of Sheffield, PA passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning January 24, 2023 at Warren General Hospital.  Larry was born in Kane, PA on February 5, 1944, the son of the late Delbert Silves and Sarah Bell (Murray) Silves.  He was a 1963 graduate of Sheffield High School.  He then served a four-year union apprenticeship.  Larry served his country in the Army National Guard from 1965 to 1971 with the rank of Corporal.  Larry retired as an Operating Engineer with Local 66.  He was a member of the Sheffield United Methodist Church.  He was a social member of the VFW Post 8755 (Sheffield), Clarendon VFW, Warren Moose Lodge, and American Legion Post 135, Warren, Pa.

Larry had many interests.  He was raised riding horses and thoroughly enjoyed horseback riding.  He also enjoyed gardening, cooking and raising his chickens.  Larry always had a smile and would always take time to stop and chat.  Larry will be sadly missed by anyone who had the privilege of knowing and loving him, especially the community of Sheffield, but most of all by his loving family.  Larry was a wonderful Dad, Brother, Uncle and Great Uncle.

Left behind to cherish Larry’s memory are his children Monty Silves, daughter-in-law Catherine Young, Jason Silves, daughter-in-law Hillary Roell Silves ; nephews Kim Marano, Delbert Marano, Erich Weidner; nieces Sarah Marano and Nora DeVries; great nephews Andrew Marano, David Marano, Kyle Marano, Christopher Korbar, Adam Marano, Luke McKinney, Cody DeVries, Cole DeVries, Cutter DeVries; great nieces Shala McKinney, Marley Traister and two grandchildren Cali and Kelsi Silves.  He is also survived by one sister, Gayle Weidner.  Larry was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Edith Marano.

Larry’s family will welcome family & friends on Friday, January 27, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Borden Funeral Home of Sheffield.  Additional visitation will be on Saturday, January 28, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the Funeral Home.  Funeral Services will take place at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Terry Hurlbutt presiding.  Military honors will follow being accorded by the Sheffield VFW.  Following the service, everyone is invited to a luncheon and life celebration at 12:30 p.m. at the Clarendon VFW.
