John M. Hilyer, 43, of James City, in Elk County, Pa, passed away Monday, September 15, 2025, in Elk County. He was born in Kane, Pa, on April 18, 1982, the son of Harry “Butch” Hilyer and Patrica (Hanley) Hilyer. He was a 2001 graduate of Kane High School.
John married Diane Elizabeth (Mohney) on March 18, 2005, in Kane, Pa. He was a dye setter by trade and was presently employed at NPI in Wilcox, Pa. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, and going for rides on his 4-wheeler. He also enjoyed being in the water on his jet ski. He liked taking long rides in his truck, but most of all he cherished the time he spent with his wife and children.
Left behind to cherish John’s memory are his wife Diane E. Hilyer at home; his son, John M. Hilyer, Jr. of Union City, PA ; his daughters, Alyassa A Hilyer and Marie E. Hilyer also at home; His father Harry “Butch” Hilyer of Sheffield, Pa; his mother, Patricia Hilyer of Kane , Pa ; a brother Harry Hilyer and wife Tara of Kane, Pa ; and a sister Julie Hilyer also of Kane . He is further survived by aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as his faithful companions Levi and Ace.
John’s family will welcome friends on Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the Borden Funeral Home, 203 W. Main St, Sheffield, Pa. Services will be held following the visitation at 2:00 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Ruth Ann Varotto, presiding. Burial will be private. A luncheon will follow at the Sheffield United Methodist Church, 11 West Main St, Sheffield, Pa. by the ladies of the community churchs.
