Janette J. Mauk

Janette J. Mauk, 89, formerly of Sheffield, passed away peacefully, Thursday morning, October 22, 2020, at Cambridge Warren.  She was born on March 19, 1931 in Warren.  Although being raised by her grandparents Stuart and Dorothea Wilcox, she held a special place in her heart for her mother, Kathryn Wilcox Peterson, and was taught the ethic of hard work and graduated from Warren High School in 1949.  She married Phillip (Buster) Mauk on January 5, 1952. She worked for the National Forest Service in the Sheffield Forestry office. Janette was a member of the Sheffield United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and was actively involved with various church functions.  She loved the holidays, especially the Christmas Season.  She enjoyed reading, knitting and camping trips to Homestead Park Campground with Buster.  Her passion was that of baking, and people always looked forward to her famous apple pie.  She will be greatly missed.  Left behind to cherish her memory are her daughter Stephanie Mauk Banovic and her husband George Banovic of Sheffield, her grandchildren Molly and husband Michael Yates, Allison Moore, and Emily Himmler as well as her three great-grandchildren, Eli, Isaac, and Otis Yates.  She was preceded in death by her husband Phillip, two daughters Charmaine Vavala and Rebecca Himmler, two brothers, Paul L. Shirley and Charles F. Kemery, and a granddaughter Leanne Himmler.  Janette’s family will welcome family and friends on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 from 11:30 to 1 PM at the Borden Funeral Home of Sheffield.  Services will follow at 1 PM with Certified Lay Minister Ruth A. Varrato officiating.  Burial will follow in the Sheffield cemetery.  Memorial donations may be made to the St. Jude’s Hospital.  To leave an online condolence for Janette J.
