Gordon Lubold Obituary

Gordon Neil (Gordy) Lubold of Sheffield completed his ‘time of service’ here on earth on Feb. 16, 2022 in Clearwater, FL. He became critically ill after arriving in Florida for a visit with his son and daughter-in-law, Timothy Alan Lubold and Lisa (Lawson) Lubold, and also Miles Lawson, Amber (Lawson) Hill and Ian Lawson. Gordy was a 1959 graduate of Sheffield High School. After high school he served as a Corpsman in the U. S. Navy from 1959-1961 (including the Cuban Missile Crises). Following his service in the military Gordy delivered milk for Warren County Dairy. He worked at and managed the Quality Market in Sheffield. Then worked as a Supervisor in the Dietary Department at the Warren State Hospital until his retirement.

It was well known that ‘Black and Gold’ ran through Gordy’s veins, as he was an avid Pirates, Steelers and Penguins fan. He was an active member of the Sheffield Lions Club, Bethany Lutheran Church of Sheffield, and the Sheffield Sports Boosters. He was very active in, and coordinated for many years, the honorary Color Guard of the Michael and Nicholas Peroski Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8755 in Sheffield, where someone else will be taking over playing ‘Taps’ for Veterans’ funerals.

He was married to Avella Lee Lubold for 60 years. He is survived by sons Paul L. Lubold (Heather) and Tim Lubold (Lisa). He is also survived by loving grandchildren Fiona Lubold, Nathan Lubold, and Paige Lubold.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Mildred Lubold.

A memorial service will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church in Sheffield, Pennsylvania which will include a Veteran’s memorial service and will take place early in the Summer, 2022.  Burial will follow at the Sheffield Cemetery.   Local arrangements have been entrusted to Borden Funeral Home of Sheffield, Pennsylvania.
