Eleanor L. Peterson

Eleanor L. Peterson, 94, a lifelong resident of Sheffield, PA, passed away peacefully Saturday evening, August 9, 2025, at Kinzua Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Warren, PA.  She was born on January 7, 1931, in Gipsy, PA (Indiana County), the daughter of the late Emory Ryen and Hazel (Buchanan) Ryen.  She was a 1949 graduate of Purchase Line High School.  She married Karlton L. Peterson in 1951 and together they raised two children. 

Eleanor was employed for many years at the Blair Corporation, from which she retired.  She was a lifelong member of the Sheffield Untied Methodist Church.  In her earlier years, she taught Sunday School, helped with countless church dinners, and baked communion bread for worship services.  She took great pride in her home and in her yard.  She thoroughly enjoyed flower gardening.  She was a former member of S.A.R.A.H. Community Gardening Club of Sheffield.  Above all else, people of the area would say, “Mrs. Peterson was the best apple pie baker around.”  It was a fact that when she donated pies to a cause they always sold before they could be served. 

Mrs. Peterson will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by the community of Sheffield, especially her loving son and daughter in law. 

Left behind to cherish Eleanor’s memory are her son Jeffrey (Jeff) Peterson and his wife Carol of Sheffield, grandchildren Kyle Wees (Makensie) of Warren and Tyler Wees (Miranda) of Warren, great grandchildren, Zoey, Zayden, Amelia, Logan, Ireland and Ellie. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Karlton L. Peterson in 1991, a grandson, Casey Brusso in 2008, her daughter, Lori Brusso in 2021 and five siblings. 

Calling hours for Mrs. Peterson will be held from 4 pm to 6 pm on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at the Borden Funeral Home, 203 West Main Street in Sheffield, PA.  A private graveside service will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025, at the Sheffield Cemetery.  Pastor Mark Schwanke of Sheffield United Methodist Church, presiding.
