David E. Benson

September 8, 1940 ~ December 8, 2021 (age 81)



David Everett Benson, 81, 26 Pickering St., Sheffield, died at 4pm Wednesday, Dec 8th, 2021, at home following a brief illness.

He was born Sept 8, 1940 in Niagara Falls, NY, a son of the late Everett C. Benson& Doris M. (Johnson) Benson.  He was a 1958 graduate of Sheffield High School and later attended Westminster College and Bryant & Stratton College in Buffalo where he graduated in 1961. Shortly thereafter, he was drafted into the US Army where he served from 1961-64.

Upon receiving an Honorable discharge in 1964, Mr. Benson was employed by Schaeffer Electric Supply, Inc. of Warren, a company he would later purchase in 1966. Soon after, he would open and operate the Lantern House on Pennsylvania Avenue.

Mr. Benson was a life-long member of Bethany Lutheran Church and was an active member of the Sheffield Volunteer Fire Department for approx. 28 years. He also served terms on the Board for the Sheffield Cemetery Association 

Mr. Benson is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy Benson; three sons, Andrew Benson (Caroline) of Warren, Bill Benson of Tampa, FL and Matthew Benson of Sheffield; three grandchildren: Nathanial, Brock and Max and two younger sisters: Carol George of Kent, OH and Joan Benson of Winchester, VA.

A private service will be held at Borden Funeral Home in Sheffield with final arrangements being made at a later date.

Memorial donations may be directed to: Hospice of Warren County and/or the Sheffield Volunteer Fire Department.
