Darlene Lavery

Darlene Yvonne Lavery, 86, a lifelong resident of Hamilton Road, Kane, PA, passed away peacefully Friday morning, August 18, 2023, in her home, the home that she was born in on March 30, 1937, 86 years ago, the daughter of the late Wilbur McKenzie and Ruby (Wagner) McKenzie.  Darlene was a graduate of Kane High School and gained employment as a laborer at the former Stackpole.  She loved the outdoors and when able, she enjoyed cutting grass and tending to her yard.  She thoroughly enjoyed fashion, clothing, shoes, and jewelry.  Her favorite time of the year was her birthday.  She looked forward to flowers, cards, and especially her birthday cake.  She was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan: Steelers and Penguins, and would enjoy watching a good game of golf.  She was an animal lover of all animals, especially dogs.

Left behind to cherish Darlene’s memory are her daughter, Tammy Smith of Chesterfield, Virginia, a granddaughter, Savannah Smith, and her fiancé Jake, of Arlington, Virginia.  She is further survived by her faithful chihuahua, Toby.  She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Rick McKenzie and one sister, Shirley (McKenzie) Boholnick.

There will be no public calling or services observed.  Private family visitation and services were held on Sunday, August 20, 2023, at the Borden Funeral Home in Sheffield.  Burial took place on Monday, August 21, 2023, at the Gibbs Hill Cemetery in Ludlow.  Pastor Ruth Ann Varrato presided over the services.
