Charles Frederick Ryberg, the only son of Flora Walker Ryberg and Carl A. Ryberg, of Sheffield, PA, was born in Warren, PA on February 1, 1931, and died in Erie, PA on February 4, 2026.He was preceded in death by his loving parents; his beloved sister, Dorris Arnella Ryberg Keller; his dear niece, Marsha Keller Giomariso of Ormond Beach, FL; his maternal grandparents, Josephine Rutter and John Frederick Walker; his paternal grandparents, Ida Marie Jorgenson and Charles Otto Ryberg; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and his beloved dog and cat, Muffin and Nonnie; and many much loved friends.
Surviving are his partner of 60 years, R.H. Williams of Erie, PA; a nephew Barry (Irene) Keller of Warren, PA; great nieces, Monica and Jennifer Keller, a grand-niece Evelyn Keller all of Warren, PA ; a great niece, Jessica Giomariso Blumenfeld (Gary), , grand-nephew Owen Parker Blumenfeld, and nephew-in-law, Joseph Giomariso, all of Ormond Beach; and a number of cousins and second cousin. Also surviving are many wonderful friends in New York City, Sheffield, Erie and various places around the world.
Charley lived in Sheffield until 1952 when he moved to New York City. He attended City College of New York and Columbia University, NY. He worked in various capacities at several magazines including Medical World News, Hospital Practice, Scientific American Medicine, and finally as managing editor of Emergency Medicine until he retired in 1994.
In retirement, Charley returned to Sheffield for three years before moving to Erie where he enjoyed making new friends, delving into the regional art and music scene, playing scrabble, and volunteering in community. Charley was beloved for his kindness, his delightful conversations, his caring nature, and his mastery of the English language.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 11 a.m. at the Borden Funeral Home, 203 West Main St, Sheffield PA 16347. Inurnment will follow in the Ryberg family plot in Sheffield Cemetery. All arrangements are under the care of Borden Funeral Home.
