Barbara Elinor Bickling Weidner, age 94, a resident of Brookdale Senior Living, Latrobe, PA, and
former resident of Sheffield, PA, went home to Heaven on February 10, 2026. Elinor was
married to Herman Edward Weidner on July 19, 1958, who preceded her in death on August 10,
2003.
Elinor was born in Greensboro, MD, on June 29, 1931. She was the daughter of the late Merrel
H. and Carrie M. Greenley Spence. She had two brothers and two sisters that preceded her in
death.
Before marrying Herman and moving to Sheffield, she was employed by International Latex
Corp, Dover, DE, as a New Accounts Clerk. Herman was stationed at Dover Air Force Base at the
time. In her 60+ years as a Sheffield resident, Elinor was involved in the community as a
volunteer at the Sheffield Township Library and member of the Sheffield Senior Center. In
addition to being a full-time homemaker, she worked in town as a Home Aide care giver, and
sold Avon for several years. She was an active member of the Sheffield United Methodist Church for over 50 years and served in many different positions.
Elinor loved to knit. Over the years she made many personalized Christmas stockings for family
members. These are now treasured heirlooms. She also loved to read, play the piano, and
especially loved to host and cook for family gatherings. She always took the time to make the
favorite dish of everyone who was gathered.
Surviving are two sons, Michael Bickling (Sheila), Sebring, FL, Kevin Weidner (Cathy),
Hummelstown, PA and daughter Krista (Greg) Brown, Latrobe, PA, along with 8 grandchildren
and 12 great grandchildren.
The family is extremely grateful to the wonderful staff at Brookdale Latrobe, and to Bridges
Hospice. There will be no public calling hours observed. A private service was held at the Borden Funeral Home in Sheffield, PA with Pastor Ruth Ann Varatto, presiding. Burial took place at the Sheffield Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made in Elinor’s name to the Sheffield United Methodist church, Brookdale Latrobe, or a charity of choice.
