Rory B. Pollaro, 66, of Jamestown, New York, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2026.

Born on May 16, 1960, in Jamestown, Rory was the son of the late Anthony "Oats" Pollaro and Alberta Belote Pollaro. A lifelong resident of the area, Rory dedicated much of his life to serving his community through journalism while remaining devoted to his faith, his family, and the people he loved.

Above all else, Rory was a loving father and proud grandfather. Nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with his children and grandchildren. Whether sharing stories, offering advice, or simply enjoying each other's company, his family was the center of his world. His grandchildren brought him endless pride and happiness, and he treasured every moment he spent with them.

Rory enjoyed a distinguished career in journalism spanning several decades. He served as both a reporter and editor at The Post-Journal in Jamestown, and as an editor with the Warren Times Observer. Throughout his years in print journalism, he earned a reputation for thoughtful reporting and a deep commitment to informing the public through his coverage of crime, the courts, local government, politics, and community affairs.

Later in his career, Rory embraced a new challenge by joining WNY News Now, where he successfully transitioned from traditional print journalism into the world of digital news and television. At a time when many would have stepped away from the profession, Rory eagerly learned new technology and adapted to a new style of storytelling. His willingness to evolve reflected the same passion and curiosity that defined his entire career. At WNY News Now, he continued covering local government and politics while also sharing his appreciation for the arts through feature stories highlighting local musicians and performers.

Outside of the newsroom, Rory found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved spending time in nature, enjoyed fishing, writing poetry, following politics, and cheering on his beloved Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packers. His faith in God guided his life, and those who knew him will remember his thoughtful spirit, quick wit, kind heart, inquisitive mind, and unwavering love of storytelling.

In addition to his parents, Rory was preceded in death by his infant brother, Tony Pollaro; his sister, Roxanne Goodwill; and his brother, Sterling Pollaro.

He is survived by his children, Benjamin (Allie) Pollaro, Christine (Devin) Perez, and Lillian (Tobias) Gordon; his cherished grandchildren, Tony, Odin, Ronin, Omi, Damon, Livie, Kaydin, Sapphire, Mikey, and Max; his siblings, Benjamin Pollaro and Faline (Tim) Speas; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, dear friends, former colleagues, and readers whose lives were touched by his work and friendship.

Rory believed every community had a story worth telling. Through his words, his compassion, and his lifelong dedication to journalism, he leaves behind a legacy that will continue to live on in the stories he shared, the lives he touched, and the family he loved so deeply. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
